In west London, a church has been hosting a special “Carols with Pets” event, inviting people to bring their animals along for a festive evening of music and reflection.
At St John the Baptist Church, Holland Park, the gathering has grown so popular that entry is now ticketed to manage attendance. This year, the church’s booking page announced that one of the services had reached full capacity and politely asked visitors not to arrive without a reservation.
Inside, the evening unfolds much like a traditional Christmas service. There are scripture readings, familiar hymns, and the warm glow of seasonal decorations. But the highlight — the moment many attendees look forward to most — is the blessing of the animals.
According to the Diocese of London, around 700 people and their pets attended across two nights. The scene included dogs dressed in Christmas jumpers, along with small treats and keepsakes handed out after each blessing.
For some, it’s simply a joyful night out with their four-legged companions. For others, it carries a quieter meaning — a chance to celebrate the bond they share with their pets, and to gently remember those they’ve loved and lost.
